Time flies...wish I were having fun.

    posted Thursday, 27 October 2005

How the hell did it get to be Thursday already?  The week has just flown by and I have very little to show for it...which normally wouldn't be that much of a problem if I didn't have a HUGE freelance project with a fast-approaching deadline hanging over my head.

So guess what I have to look forward to this weekend? WORKING.

Oh, and helping our Favorite Neighbors move out of the building, which is depressing enough. Not only will Dr. Darling and I miss them terribly, but we are also completely and totally envious of the fact that they will never again have to deal with the landlord's lunatic common-law wife AKA Cruella DeVille.

Do I know how to live, or what?

Of course the freelance project is my own fault.  It's another guidebook fact-check for the same London publishing house that has engaged me for this kind work on two previous occasions. The difference between then and now is that at the moment, I'm working full-time.  (And I say "at the moment" because I am still uncertain as to what my employment status will be after the first of the year...which is why I felt I had to take the freelance assignment in the first place.)  The work is not especially hard...but there's a lot of it...especially when you're limited to doing it on evenings and weekends.

And until recently, it seemed like I rarely had commitments on evenings and weekends. But ever since the guidebook work began, I've had stuff I could not get out of a minimum of two nights every week.  Take this week for example...on Monday night I had to chair a meeting for an organization of which I am an officer, and tonight I have a not-mandatory-but-also-not-smart-to-skip work-related event that's likely to last until at least 10 p.m.  Aaaarrrgggghhh!!!

And of course adding insult to injury is the fact that the money from this project...which I technically haven't even earned yet...has already been spent on incredibly expensive airline tickets to the U.S. for Christmas. Ho Ho Ho-rror!
