    Questioning my Swede-cred...

    Tuesday, 13 October 2009 7:21 A GMT+01
Iäve been living in Sweden for over 7 years now and consider myself to be pretty well integrated into society. I've learned the language, cracked the cultural code of the workplace (no to mention the apartment building laundry room).

    Shazzer's iPhone 3GS saga update

    Sunday, 26 July 2009 9:40 A GMT+01
For once, waiting appears to have paid off...even though doing so nearly drove me around the bend. With each passing day there were more news stories about Apple not being able to keep up with demand for the new iPhone 3GS.

    The Great iPhone Delivery Dilemma

    Sunday, 19 July 2009 7:11 A GMT+01
On Friday I got an e-mail from one of the mobile network companies that will have the iPhone 3GS when it FINALLY goes on sale here in Sweden on July 31.

    Sweet, cloud-covered relief

    Sunday, 5 July 2009 12:49 P GMT+01
I seem to lament annually on the challenges of being an expat on the 4th of July. There's just no way to create even a reasonable facsimile of this most American of holidays here among the Vikings.

Irony is often lost on Swedes

    Wednesday, 24 June 2009 12:04 P GMT+01
My Swedish “hometown” of Malmö has been in the country’s news a lot lately for reasons that my American readership will likely find somewhat entertaining.

    Midsummer Weekend Survived

    Sunday, 21 June 2009 12:38 P GMT+01
Today marks the summer solstice for 2009, but Swedes have been celebrating since Friday. They have a talent for conveniently re-scheduling their holidays so that a 3-day weekend results.

    Swedes say "marriage for everybody"

    Thursday, 2 April 2009 2:07 P GMT+01
The Swedish parliament, by an overwhelming majority, has finally reached the conclusion that it’s silly to have two differently-named-but-otherwise-identical legal arrangements for couples who want to form a family.

    My adopted country ROCKS!

    Saturday, 24 January 2009 7:35 A GMT+01
Sweden to allow gay marriage in May It appears that there is now enough of a majority in the Swedish parliament to make gender-neutral marriage the law of the land later this Spring.

    An unexpected consequence of darkness

    Tuesday, 9 December 2008 5:52 A GMT+01
We are now well and truly in the throes of the southern Sweden winter, which means very limited daylight…and what sun you do get see is usually filtered through very thick, gray clouds.

I wonder if this would work in Sweden?

Time for us all to be patriots

    Tuesday, 4 November 2008 8:30 A GMT+01
Happy U.S. Election Day Everybody! And it's been such a long time coming. It' s just about 8:30 a.m. here in Sweden...the polls don't open on the East Coast for another three and a-half hours...and I've already been in tears twice this morning.

Just how lazy do they think I am?

    Saturday, 18 October 2008 7:21 P GMT+01
I?m all for convenience foods, but this ready-to-cook omelette in a carton strikes me as overkill. Especially here in Sweden, where people still cook at home ALOT. I mean, how much time and effort is required to crack some eggs into a bowl and whisk

Summer weather took a vacation instead

    Friday, 15 August 2008 2:51 P GMT+01
Evidently Mother Nature did not want us to do a bike tour this summer. Dr. Darling and I have been on vacation for the last 2 weeks with plans to spend 5 or 6 of those days on a bike tour.

    Moving on to Plan B...

    Friday, 8 August 2008 11:52 P GMT+01
The collection of rain clouds that parked themselves over southern Sweden at the beginning of the week seems to REALLY like it here.

    The pause that refreshes...

    Wednesday, 25 June 2008 4:54 A GMT+01
Finally, a Swedish server that understands the meaning of the phrase, “with lots of ice”! We dined “al fresco” in Lillatorg (Malmö’s “little square”) tonight. And while my companions went with traditional pub brews, I went another direction.

    Saturday night in Sweden

    Saturday, 14 June 2008 10:12 A GMT+01
Not sure which I’m enjoying more…Sweden vs. Spain on our flat-screen TV, or the tall Gin & Tonic made with Bombay Sapphire and fresh limes. Tough call!Mobile post sent by Shazzer using Utterz. Replies.Original Entry

    Breakfast of Swedish Champions

    Thursday, 12 June 2008 2:48 P GMT+01
I often blog about cultural differences between the U.S. and Sweden, partly because my workday always starts with a big one: breakfast. (In Swedish: frukost.) The open-face sandwich is basically the Swedish version of Cheerios.

What the hell happened to spring?!

    Wednesday, 26 March 2008 10:33 A GMT+01
Train station, Landskrona, Sweden, March 20-frigging-6th, 2008.

    Happy Fat Tuesday from Sweden!

Large majority of Swedes want to allow gay marriage

    Tuesday, 22 January 2008 12:45 P GMT+01
Large majority of Swedes want to allow gay marriageIn reality, it's probably the main reason I live here.

In Sweden we whistle AT construction workers!

    Friday, 18 January 2008 9:42 P GMT+01
I can think of few things sexier than a man in a kilt...except maybe a really fit construction worker in a kilt!

    Running the gauntlet...

    Sunday, 16 December 2007 6:09 P GMT+01
I'm not sure which was more stressful...travelling home from my office alone during rush hour last Friday, or navigating the crowds of Christmas shoppers in th city this afternoon.

    Recuperative weekend

    Sunday, 25 November 2007 12:04 A GMT+01
Good Gawd the human body' ability to heal is an amazing thing. Oh I still have one hell of a black eye...but at least now it appears as though I might have been on the winning side of the fight!

New entry category: The Cyclops Chronicles

    Friday, 23 November 2007 7:18 P GMT+01
Hello and welcome to my first entry as a singularly-sighted blogger. Can you tell the difference? I sure can. While what vision I had in that eye wasn't very good, it did allow me to at least have some idea of what was happening on my right side.

The last day of summer...such as it was

    Friday, 31 August 2007 10:51 P GMT+01
I can't believe today is August 31. And not because time is passing so quickly (though it is)...but because it's 54 friggin' degrees outside. I'm so glad my mother paid high-season rates (TWICE) to fly to Sweden in August.
