    Moving on to Plan B...

    Friday, 8 August 2008 11:52 P GMT+01
The collection of rain clouds that parked themselves over southern Sweden at the beginning of the week seems to REALLY like it here.

    My own personal Hitchcock film...

    Sunday, 15 June 2008 7:26 A GMT+01
For the past several weeks Dr. Darling and I have suspected that a family of seagulls was nesting on the roof of our building directly above our bedroom window. Turns out, we were right.

    "Bringing in the sheets"

    Monday, 28 January 2008 8:45 P GMT+01
We spent a good chunk of the weekend entertaining my father-on-law. He had initially invited us to visit him in Falkenberg, but ever since becoming Copenhagen's 1st PhD postal carrier, Dr. D has (finally!) become a bit protective of our weekends.

    When SPAM goes ironic

    Saturday, 29 September 2007 7:24 P GMT+01
Everyone once in awhile I take a troll through my junk mail folder just to make sure that no legitimate messages have ended up there by mistake.

Evidently I'm too short to work here?

    Monday, 17 September 2007 1:36 P GMT+01
The Ergonomics Lady made her annual visit to my company last week, and as usual, totally screwed with my office arrangement.

I haven't got time for the pain...

    Wednesday, 12 September 2007 8:25 A GMT+01
Yesterday I played golf for the first time in at least 5 years, and today I'm aching in places that I didn't even know had muscles. I expected some soreness in my legs and back, but even my hands hurt!

    Bookends of stupidity...

    Monday, 10 September 2007 1:51 P GMT+01
Since I started the weekend by doing something super stupid...it seemed somehow cosmically unavoidable that I would start the work-week off (my first full one since being on vacation) doing something equally moronic.I was getting ready to head out th

    Financially solvent again...

    Friday, 7 September 2007 11:28 P GMT+01
My new bank card arrived in the mail today and since I've been feeling somewhat crippled this week without it, I couldn't wait to activateit.

Today's travel tip: Always take pickpocket warnings seriously...

    Monday, 3 September 2007 5:02 A GMT+01
'The Mothership' and I are headed backdown to Malmö after a lovely two days in Stockholm...marred only by the fact that I was pickpocketed on a city bus on our way to Skansen this afternoon.

    Still laughing like a Geisha

    Thursday, 16 August 2007 1:09 P GMT+01
I have a summer cold that is hanging on for dear life and it's really starting to piss me off. Mostly because I know I've probably contributed to its tenaciousness by my refusal to take it seriously.

Some Mondays are worse than others...

    Monday, 6 August 2007 12:29 P GMT+01
Today began Week 2 of our new weekday schedule, AKA "Neverending Bootcamp in Hell." So far we've discovered that the getting up at o'dark-thirty part is fairly do-able...it's the getting to bed by 10 p.m. part that's proving to be difficult.

    When "Holy Rollers" go literal...

    Tuesday, 31 July 2007 2:05 P GMT+01
Dr. D: Are you actually watching bowling? Shazz: No. I'm watching "Jesus Camp." It's a documentary about the evangelical religious movement in the US. Dr. D: Did that little girl just pray outloud to Jesus before she thre her ball?

I'm sorry, but "West Side Story" blows...

    Friday, 27 July 2007 12:00 P GMT+01
There, I said it. I don't care if it won 10 Oscars...the 1961 film is cheesy with a capital Cheddar.

We've GOT to stop travelling on Swedish holidays...

    Saturday, 23 June 2007 9:05 A GMT+01
Because there's always a drunk guy on the train on the way home who dumps his beer (why are people allowed to bring open containers on board in the first place?) harasses female passengers, and lights up even though smoking is forbidden on board.

    Taxing day for ex-pats

    Friday, 15 June 2007 4:45 P GMT+01
Today is the deadline for Americans living abroad to file their tax returns...which means I sent mine in yesterday.

And the 2007 Sleepless Season begins!

    Monday, 11 June 2007 8:15 P GMT+01
Sometime shortly after dawn this morning...for the first time this year...I had to break out the sleep mask

"If we could put a man on the moon..."

    Tuesday, 22 May 2007 8:38 A GMT+01
...surely the shared laser printers at my office could indicate whether or not they are busy BEFORE I press the print button?

    Anniversary of an insult...

    Wednesday, 2 May 2007 7:28 A GMT+01
It was one year ago today that our former Landlady from Hell called Dr. Darling a degenerate sub-species as she was turning in the keys to our old apartment. Here's an update on where we are with the mediation via Sweden's anti-discrimination bureau.

    Greetings from the future...

    Sunday, 15 April 2007 12:50 P GMT+01
This post is appearing under the date of Sunday, April 15...but it's actually being written on Monday, April 16. Spooky, huh?!

    "Mission partially accomplished..."

    Wednesday, 11 April 2007 12:08 P GMT+01
Dr. Darling and I spent the second half (Sunday and Monday) of our long holiday weekend up in Falkenberg for a combined Easter and father-in-law's birthday celebration. Would it help me get over the Great Christmas Disappointment of 2006?

Swedish journalists take April Fool's Day VERY seriously!

    Sunday, 1 April 2007 8:27 A GMT+01
The largest newspaper in southern Sweden ran an article today claiming that the regional government was implementing a rebate program to encourage dog owners to do a better job of picking up after their pets.

    Surely I'm not THAT healthy?!

    Saturday, 31 March 2007 8:31 A GMT+01
The following piece of news grabbed from The Local this afternoon has me puzzled. It's about a study showing that smokers take eight days more sick leave per year than their non-smoking colleagues.

Forget writer's block...I'm busy writing blind!

    Tuesday, 20 March 2007 12:05 P GMT+01
How not to write an article for a trade magazine.

And you thought Americans were sue-happy?

    Sunday, 11 March 2007 10:39 P GMT+01
I found this news story rather amusing...which is not to say I don't empathize with the plaintiff.

"What the hell is that smell?"

    Monday, 5 March 2007 10:20 P GMT+01
One of the disadvantages of living in a large apartment building is the occasional mysterious (and unfortunately, usually disgusting) smells that turn up in the stairwell and/or elevator.
