    Swedish wet blanket

    posted Sunday, 6 July 2008

“Some days you’re not so much “the wind beneath my wings” as you are the vacuum that sucks it right out of my sails.”

    - Me, to Dr. Darling*, who didn’t really “get” the reference.

    Original Entry

*Dr. Darling wants me to add a little context to this quote so that my mother-in-law doesn't read the entry and conclude that we're breaking up.  So here's the (boring) story:

Earlier today, I saw a TV ad for a "greatest hits" CD by a Swedish artist we both enjoy. This is roughly the full conversation that followed:

"Honey, we need to get Patrik Isaksson's Greatest Hits CD!"

"We've already got most of those songs on other CDs."

"We don't have "Innan Klockan Slår" or "Under Mitt Tunna Skinn."

"But if we buy the CDs with those songs on them, we'll get a lot more music for our money."

"Why do you always have to be so practical?"

    "I'm Swedish."

"You know, some days you're not so much "the wind beneath my wings" as you are the vacuum that sucks it right out of my sails."
