I first blogged about Matt Harding 's mesmerizing bad-dancing world tour videos back in May of last year.  At that point I was about 12 months behind the rest of the internets in knowing who he was, but I'm making up for that by sharing his latest effort within 24 hours of it's release on YouTube. (It helps to be on his mailing list.) The verdict?  "I laughed, I cried,it was better than Cats!"

Today marked the first of what will be many al fresco lunches at Tomatens Hus, a family-run cafe on their family-run tomato farm.

The ‘house special’ is a rustic tomato pie that is off-the-chain delicious. And it’s served with a fresh tomato salad (natch) that’s also heavenly. It’s a totally tasty festival of anti-oxidants!

Dr. Darling’s Mom is down for the weekend and the two of them made a rather spur-of-the-moment decision this morning to go to Copenhagen. I’m still dealing with the remnants of the Spring Cold from Hell and decided to pass on the excursion. I’m also in the midst of proofreading a doctoral thesis for a Lund University engineer and needed to spend some time on that.

But the weather was just too beautiful to be indoors all afternoon (and the sun was too bright to see the iBook screen on the balcony). So instead of working, I ran errands, sampled my favorite Alpha Geek ’s latest espresso blend (in addition to being our "go-to guy" for all things computer-related, Sonny's an amateur barista), and then rendezvoused with some friends for a spicy tuna inside-out fix.

Usually Dr. D’s absence (the D also stands for ‘disdainful of fish’) is the only excuse I need to hit a sushi bar, but today I reasoned that I actually needed the wasabi…you know, for medicinal purposes. My sinuses are clear for the first time in a week!

These giant eggs are sitting in the center of the city’s main square with no signage or explanation whatsoever. If there was a bird involved it must have been HUGE!

So while yesterday’s stop at Starbucks was intentional (we were looking to score a free wifi connection), this morning’s patronage is due to the fact that nothing more ‘local’ was open. Turns out Sweden isn’t the only EU country where merchants sleep late on Sunday mornings.

So we’re killing time before church starts in by far the largest Starbucks I’ve ever seen. I’d guess the floor space is about the size of a regulation basketball court, and the ceilings are almost just as high. The 15-foot windows face the Edinburgh Castle. I can’t imagine what kind of rent they pay for this space. But based on what we paid for two latte’s and a couple of scones, they can certainly afford it!

Evidently a full day of spending money indiscriminately was exhausting for the normally spendthrift Swede!

We focused on media and sporting goods stores, and scored some long sought-after items as well as some unexpected bargains. We also hiked up to the castle so we could stroll The Royal Mile.

By the time we got back to the hotel and showered, we were too wiped to go back out for dinner…so we ordered room service and watched a documentary on BBC 2. (There are only 5 channels to choose from so the pickings were pretty slim.)

I’m planning to drag the Swede to church tomorrow morning since I can’t pass up the chance to hit an authentic Anglican service. The challenge will be deciding which one!

We’ve had a lovely first day so far…the weather was about as good as it gets this time of year. We took advantage of the sunshine and buzzed around the city a bit, both on foot and by double-decker bus. (The seat covers were tartan, naturally!)

We steered clear of most of the big tourist destinations since we’ve both been here before. But my rampant Anglophilia and love of history would not allow me to miss touring the Royal Yacht Britannia, which is moored here on permanent exhibit. VERY cool. The tour is self-guided and you can take as much time as you like, and as it wasn’t very crowded, it was easy to linger in all the places I'’ve seen photos of for so many years.

Tonight is the BIG show, French & Saunders: Still Alive. Dr. Darling wants to have Indian food for dinner beforehand…could be a dangerous combination!

The above photo was taken with my new Sony Ericsson P1i (well, new since January, anyway) and posted here by what I like to call the scenic route.
 
Baseball fans in general and long-suffering Chicago Cubs fans in specific have probably heard of the infamous double-play combination of "Tinker to Evers to Chance". Well, this image of the Malmö City Library's modern wing arrived here via "Utterz to Tumblr to Shazz"...utterz being a microblogging tool that lets folks post multi-media content created by a mobile phone directly to an ever-growing list of user-generated content streams on the web.
 
Right now I have my utterz posts set to publish on my tumblelog, which then turn up here courtesy of the neat blog mirroring feature implemented by my fab hosting service blog-city.com. And thanks to a great little tool called twitterfeed, every new entry here on ShazzerSpeak gets posted to my Twitter timeline as well. Pretty cool, huh?
 
Dr. Darling and I are getting ready for a weekend get-away to Edinburgh, and while I intend to take my iBook with me, I hope to do most of the chronicling of the trip on-the-fly with my mobile phone via utterz. To that end, I will be posting some short (and hopefully semi-interesting) practice entries from remote locations this week.
