    Domestic Bliss

When the cat's away...the mice eat sushi!

    Sunday, 4 May 2008 6:43 A GMT+01
Dr. Darling’s Mom is down for the weekend and the two of them made a rather spur-of-the-moment decision this morning to go to Copenhagen. I’m still dealing with the remnants of the Spring Cold from Hell and decided to pass on the excursion. I’m also

    From the Domestic Goddess Dept.

According to LiveScience.com: Men Create More Housework for Women So then why is it that The Penthouse-Nordic usually looks like a dump unless we’re expecting company? Original Entry

    Healthy spousal rebellion

    Monday, 7 April 2008 10:38 A GMT+01
Dr. Darling spent part of the past weekend up at her brother?s house in Halmstad for a big gathering of their cousins, which means I got to be on my own for about 28 hours from Saturday to Sunday. (Not that I was counting or anything.)

    "Too drunk to wok"

    Friday, 25 January 2008 7:31 P GMT+01
I met a few former colleagues for a drink after work last night while Dr. Darling chose to stay home and get started on dinner, a beef stir-fry. I called home as I was leaving and the following conversation ensued:

Large majority of Swedes want to allow gay marriage

Large majority of Swedes want to allow gay marriageIn reality, it's probably the main reason I live here.

    Ask a stupid question...

Shazzer: How is that we did laundry four days ago and there are six pairs of your underwear in the load I washed tonight?

    One-on-One Weekend

    Sunday, 9 December 2007 3:54 P GMT+01
Given that I've been off work recovering from surgery for the last two and a-half weeks, you'd think that Saturday and Sunday would not be particularly distinguishable from the other days of the week.

New House Rule: No kebab after 8 p.m.!

    Wednesday, 14 November 2007 1:05 P GMT+01
Dr. Darling and I figure we managed to get around 7 hours of sleep between us last night, and while we have NO shortage of easons to be awake worrying in the wee hours of the night, that was not the problem for either of us last night.

I hate it when a goofy blog quiz is accurate

What time of day are you?

    The delicate morning dance...

    Wednesday, 3 October 2007 7:38 A GMT+01
It's a pretty safe bet that few parts of a person's day are more finely choreographed than his/her morning routine. This is certainly true at the Penthouse-Nordic, where until recently the first alarm clock went off at 4:50 a.m.

    A lovely day to fly...

    Wednesday, 5 September 2007 8:35 P GMT+01
Today marked the nicest weather we've seen in southern Sweden in the last two weeks...just in time for my mother to board a plane for the U.S. Typical.

Do we know how to have fun, or what?

    Sunday, 12 August 2007 8:29 A GMT+01
Until she started her new job as a Copenhagen's 1st Ph.D postal carrier, the Swede handled most of the household chores during the week, and good gawd how I miss that!

When did I sign up for this?

    Sunday, 5 August 2007 7:32 A GMT+01
It's not even 8 a.m. on Sunday morning as I write this and I've already made coffee, started two loads of laundry and unloaded the dishwasher. What's wrong with this picture?!

    "Rising and shining" is relative...

    Monday, 30 July 2007 4:42 P GMT+01
Dr. Darling and I seem to have survived the first day of her new work schedule. Of course it doesn't take long for the novelty of getting up at 5 a.m. to wear off (less than 24 hours, in fact).

    Resetting the Swede's body clock

    Sunday, 29 July 2007 4:36 A GMT+01
Turns out the perfect clock radio has a limit for how many times it will let you hit the snooze bar. After the fifth time (I think), the alarm is resets itself for the next day.

    Dr. Darling, Ph.D Postal Carrier

    Friday, 13 July 2007 9:34 P GMT+01
My chronically over-qualified Swede has finally found an employer willing to ignore her education...though she had to go to Denmark in order to do it.

Because clean underwear is a priority in my life...

    Saturday, 30 June 2007 1:27 P GMT+01
Am I becoming less flexible and spontaneous as I grow older? Or does Dr. Darling need to be taking an herbalmemoray enhancement supplement?

I think I finally got the Swede's birthday right!

    Tuesday, 26 June 2007 8:02 P GMT+01
Dr. Darling turned thirty-something today, and for the first time in the history of out relationship I actually got my @$$ out of bed earlier enough to do the traditional Swedish Birthday Breakfast-in-Bed routine for her.

We so totally SUCK at anniversaries...

    Wednesday, 20 June 2007 8:19 P GMT+01
It was five years ago today that I made the move to Sweden, so Dr. Darling and I consider June 20th a landmark date in our relationship...when we can remember it.

    "Outing" Nigel

    Monday, 18 June 2007 2:58 P GMT+01
When Dr. Darling and I first began living together, she was working on her Ph.D in a university lab with an international staff of young, hip scientists who didn't even blink when she decided to import her American girlfriend to Sweden.

    "Mission partially accomplished..."

    Wednesday, 11 April 2007 12:08 P GMT+01
Dr. Darling and I spent the second half (Sunday and Monday) of our long holiday weekend up in Falkenberg for a combined Easter and father-in-law's birthday celebration. Would it help me get over the Great Christmas Disappointment of 2006?

So it's not Feng Shui exactly...

    Monday, 26 March 2007 9:33 P GMT+01
One of the secondary benefits of (finally) painting our bedroom was re-arranging the furniture...something I've been even more keen to do than changing the colour of the walls.

So we're a little slow in the home-improvement department...

    Sunday, 25 March 2007 3:08 P GMT+01
We've been talking about painting our bedroom ever since moving into The Penthouse-Nordic, but it's been one of those projects that's been really easy to put off.

    Spoken like a 'singleton'...

    Thursday, 15 March 2007 2:36 P GMT+01
This is an actual conversation that took place at the coffee machine at my office today.

Just call me Florence, Florence Nightingale...

    Monday, 1 January 2007 11:59 P GMT+01
The new year started off with a bang in more ways than one. At midnight I watched a spectacular display of professional and amateur fireworks from the balcony of The Penthouse-Nordic.
