The New York Times is asking if the recent hullabaloo over Miss California’s fielding of a question on same-sex marriage during the Miss USA Pageant (which I didn’t even realize was still being held on a regular basis) is a sign of an even broader social shift on the issue of equal rights for gay people.
The OP-ED editors have gathered input from a couple of very good writers on both sides, and it’s a fascinating read that might actually change some people’s minds regarding whether or not Malibu Barbie Carrie Prejean “was robbed” of the crown.
I, however, am standing by my long-held conviction that Vanessa Williams was the BEST Miss USA EVAH!!!

Apologies to the Miss America organization, which I understand might have
an extra special interest in distinguishing itself from Miss USA right now.
What can I say? I'm a lazy Googler. I searched "Vanessa Williams Miss USA"
and got a page full of results, which I admit to not looking at very
carefully. (Frankly I'm kind of embarrassed that I even knew there were two
different pageants.
